Since her aunt trained racehorses, ethereal singer/songwriter
Heather Duby once dreamed of being a jockey when she grew up. But like a lot of children of the '70s, she discovered
the Cure and
Joy Division as a teenager.
Duby started writing songs; she concentrated on melody and found herself enjoying the task. In 1994,
Duby left her humble surroundings of Portland and headed north for Seattle. She focused on having a career in music while attending Evergreen College in Olympia, and it was during these years that
Duby met producer
Steve Fisk. Upon graduation, she and
Fisk readied themselves for
Duby's first recording.
Post to Wire was issued on Sub Pop in 1999. Two years later,
Duby switched up her smoky pop stylings and joined Elemental for the slick electronic effort Symbient. In 2003,
Duby returned with
Come Across the River. Her first for Sonic Boom,
Come Across the River collects some of
Duby's most honest lyrics of her career to date. ~ MacKenzie Wilson
