British jazz musician Kamaal Williams was born Henry Williams in Peckham, London. His interest in music began at school where he learned drums and percussion prior to studying music and learning to play keyboards. In 2011 Williams converted to Islam adopting the name Kamaal and with drummer Yussef Dayes formed the jazz duo Yussef Kamaal. The band released one album titled 'Black Focus' in 2016 and it earned them the accolade of 'Breakthrough Act' at the Jazz FM Awards in 2017. The band were due to tour the USA but had to cancel their appearances due to visa issues relating to Dayes and shortly afterwards the duo announced they were splitting up.Alongside his career as a jazz musician Williams has a parallel musical persona in the form of Henry Wu. Performing electronic music as Henry Wu, Williams began releasing records in 2012 with his debut album 'Stir Fry Beats'. He has released eight further albums with his most recent Henry Wu offering being 'Projections EP' which he released in 2018. In his role as jazz musician Kamaal Williams, the artist's most recent recording has been the album 'The Return' which was also released in 2018.
