Coming together in January of 1997, the Chicago-based
Heroic Doses could be considered an indie supergroup of sorts. Comprised of
Five Style guitarist and American Standard vocalist Bill Dolan, Euphone drummer
Ryan Rapsys and a string of bass players, the band toured endlessly to record their self-titled debut album. The record was released in June of 1998 on Sub Pop records. In the beginning, Dolan and Rapsys were joined by such bass players as the
Jesus Lizard's David Wm. Sims and friend Kurt Niesman. However, when they stepped into the studio to record their '98 release
Heroic Doses, the band received the assistance of C-Clamp bassist Nick Macri. Macri played on seven of the 13 mostly instrumental songs, while Dolan and Rapsys completed the rest. Matt Lux has since replaced Macri on bass. ~ Stephen Howell
