Jenna Mammina combines together folk music, pop, and jazz in her singing. She has a gentle voice, improvises with subtlety, and leaves listeners with a happy feeling.
Mammina sang in church from the age of five, appeared in school musicals, performed with local bands, learned piano and guitar, and often sang with her family. She attended Central Michigan University, Michigan State University, and Laney College in Oakland, settling in the San Francisco Bay area.
Mammina has recorded five CDs as of this writing, all of which are on her label, Mamma Grace. Her music ranges from
Abbey Lincoln to
Elvis Costello and often co-stars guitarist Andre Bush. She has performed with
Bobby McFerrin,
Bobby Watson,
Nancy King,
Andy Narell, and
Steve Coleman and in some years performs as much as 250 times. In addition,
Mammina is a music educator. Two of her programs have been called Scat for Cats and So You Want to Be a Rock and Roll Star. ~ Scott Yanow
