Jim Cole was an associate of Isaac Guillory, the Cuban-born guitarist who for 25 years was a popular recording session player in England. Cole shows up as part of the back-up on Guillory's self-titled 1974 Atlantic album, eventually reissued on CD by the Guillory family label. Whatever Cole did after 1974, he didn't hang around with Guillory, and neither did any of the other dozen musicians involved with the Atlantic sessions; Guillory realized his passion was solo acoustic work, which is what he focused on until his death in 2000. Drummer Pete Gavin, another British session pro, was also part of the line-up on the Atlantic album. There seems to be more than the average number of people named "Jim" on this session as well--at any rate, saying "Hey Jim!" would have resulted in attention not only from Cole but from drummer Jim Carey and dulcimer strumming Jim Fair. ~ Eugene Chadbourne
