The early jazz guitarist Jimmy Smith shows up on a bit less than ten recording sessions between 1927 and the mid-'40s, actually starting out as a banjoist. Smith, not to be confused with the mighty organist of the same name, is best known for his sides with the young Sarah Vaughan, collected on anthologies such as 1944-1950 on the Giants of Jazz label.
