A one-time theater student at the University of Nebraska, John Madden transferred to the University of Colorado and graduated with a B.A. in psychology and became a law student. Then music beckoned in the guise of a group put together by
Bryan Sennett, ultimately called
the Serendipity Singers, who needed
Madden's talents as a multi-instrumentalist. Particularly with his skills on the 12-string guitar,
Madden was the virtuoso backbone of the group during their two-year heyday at the top of the folk revival scene. Along with
Sennett,
Madden was also one of the two principal songwriters in the group. ~ Bruce Eder
