KAMAU Agyeman – which literally means quiet warrior, has always been a passionate and creative soul. His path in life seemed to be almost certain from birth. As a child KAMAU was very original and slightly unorthodox. Always friendly with a wacky, witty sense of humor, yet very introspective and a strong intellectual independence. Ironically, the beautiful odd and abstract sounds of gibberish we hear in KAMAU’s music was often a source of parental irritation, especially around the dinner table. Some people march to a different drum, KAMAU was destined to create his own music.Growing up KAMAU’s imagination and creativity was further stimulated by personalized extemporaneous bedtime stories featuring him and his siblings as the main characters and heroes. Most of these childhood stories were set in captivating natural environments. The music of KAMAU’s childhood, though heavily African/African-American, reflected almost every culture, including the serene, peaceful sounds of nature. Morning meditation, frankincense and myrrh, yoga and martial arts, the spirit of the quiet warrior – KAMAU’s music is a reflection of the past, acknowledgement of the present and encouragement for the future. It is, at its core, an attempt to bring balance and unite all things.
