Katy Goodman (sometimes billed by her nickname, Kickball Katy) is a singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist whose career encompasses energetic punk rock as well as thoughtful, melodic pop. Born in New Jersey,
Goodman first came to the attention of music fans as the bassist with the Brooklyn-based pop-punk trio
the Vivian Girls. Formed in 2007, the group made a big splash on the Brooklyn scene with their debut album, 2008's I Can't Stay, and they soon developed an international following. In 2010,
Goodman formed a side project, All Saints Day, with
Gregg Foreman of
Cat Power and
the Delta 72. The group proved to be short-lived, releasing a digital EP before fading out, but her next project would have greater longevity. After moving to California,
Goodman launched
La Sera, a sunnier and more pop-oriented group in which she partnered with
Todd Wisenbaker.
La Sera soon signed with the Sub Pop-distributed Hardly Art label, and released their self-titled debut album in February 2011.
Goodman divided her time between
Vivian Girls and
La Sera until January 2014, when
Vivian Girls announced they were breaking up. As
La Sera continued to tour and record, in 2016
Goodman released a collaboration with
Greta Morgan of
Springtime Carnivore and
the Hush Sound. Their album,
Take It, It's Yours, was a collection of understated and atmospheric covers of well-remembered punk and new wave tunes.

Springtime Carnivore set out on a joint tour in support of the album in October 2016. ~ Mark Deming
