Although it's still very early in her recording career, roots rock singer
Kerri Powers has been compared in the press to such renowned artists as
Shelby Lynne,
Lucinda Williams,
Rosanne Cash,
Tammy Wynette, and
Bonnie Raitt, among others. A Boston native,
Powers' interest in music stemmed from hearing country music in her father's electric company truck at the age of five, which eventually led her to a musical career.
Powers has gone on to share the concert stage with such acclaimed artists as
Jimmie Dale Gilmore,
Jimmy LaFave,
Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks, Dave Mallet, and
Luka Bloom, among others.
Powers' debut album, You, Me and a Redhead, was issued on the Leopard Skin label in 2001, which merged honest and heartfelt lyrics with elements of soul, blues, pop, zydeco, and country; and featured contributions from
the Swinging Steaks' bassist Paul Kochanski and guitarist
Steve Sadler, plus drummer Craig MacIntyre and keyboardist
Bob Malone. ~ Greg Prato
