Mexican-American norteño group
Komando Negro play lively corridos in the tradition of forefathers
Los Tigres del Norte and
Flaco Jimenez. Formed in 2009, the Cali-Mex quintet of close friends -- Santiago Martinez, Josue Arrizon, Daniel Gonzalez, Alfonso Quinonez, and Roberto Lopez -- joined together over a shared love of traditional regional Mexican music. Their debut, Los Komandantes del Corrido, was issued in 2011 and a sophomore follow-up arrived the next year. Al Estilo Italiano featured the single "Ya Te Fregaste."
Subiendo Escalones arrived in 2013, featuring the title track and the single "Go." Their fourth studio release in as many years, Manteniendo el Nivel, was issued in 2014, bookended by a pair of live concert releases. A trio of collaborative singles followed: "Rojo Es Mi Color" with
Lenin Ramirez, "Simplemente Guayaba" with Grupo Fernandez, and "Verde el Billete" featuring Los Amigos de Culiacan. Their fifth LP, Fuentes Dicen, was released in 2016. ~ Neil Z. Yeung
