Songwriter, producer, and recording artist
Kovas combines punk and thug music (hip-hop) into something he likes to call "thunk." Growing up in Brooklyn,
Kovas was influenced by everyone from
Dr. Dre to
Nirvana. He later began to focus on the producers and was drawn to the work of
Rick Rubin,
the Neptunes, and
Timbaland. His recording debut came in 2000 when a collaboration with Maseo, "Words & Verbs," landed on the Tommy Boy compilation Hip Hop 101. In 2003 he produced the track "Attitude" for
Nick Cannon's self-titled album, then in 2006 he remixed "Fiddle with the Beat" for
Lady Sovereign and "Hips Don't Lie" for
Shakira. In 2007 he restarted his own artistic career with the EP The Arrogance of Youth. ~ David Jeffries
