With her affinity for bowler hats, punky couture, and imprecise indie pop,
Lissy Trullie established herself as a New York fashion icon and emerging musician in 2008. Her well-clad figure graced the pages of such fashion magazines as Elle, SOMA, and Jalouse, while her lo-fi musical demos attracted the attention of several record labels.
Trullie eventually signed with American Myth Recordings and released her debut EP,
Self-Taught Learner, in February 2009. A beefed-up version of the EP appeared several months later, following
Trullie's signing to Downtown Records. In late 2009, she began work on her full-length debut, doing tentative recording sessions with
Bernard Butler (formerly of
Suede) but ultimately clicking with John Hill (
Rihanna,
Kings of Leon,
M.I.A.) and
Dave Sitek (
TV on the Radio). Debut single "Madeline" arrived in November 2011 as a download, with the self-titled album following in March 2012. ~ Andrew Leahey
