Born
Mary Lynn Pickett,
Lynn Bush first performed professionally as a backup singer with an R&B band in Oklahoma City in 1971. Within a few years, she was singing jazz at small clubs and piano bars, learning her craft and developing into a superior storyteller.
Bush studied piano, classical vocal techniques, and audio production while attending the University of Central Oklahoma in 1980-1984, preferring to learn about jazz by performing with jazz musicians. She was a longtime radio producer on KSCS-FM but sang on an occasional basis, including guesting with
Max Roach and
Michael Wolff. Years passed as she raised a family and worked on the radio. In 1998, she moved to the West Coast and eventually Seattle, where she has been quite active as a jazz singer.
Lynn Bush often teams up with the
New Stories trio, and in 2004 finally made her recording debut with
Still Life for the Origin label. ~ Scott Yanow
