The highly melodic alternative metal of
Madame Mayhem is the brainchild of singer and songwriter Natalie Ann Cohen. A trained opera singer, the New York native released her first album under the moniker, White Noise, in 2012. Her third album, 2017's Ready for Me, was written with members of
Sevendust and
Evanescence.
Born and raised in Manhattan, Cohen studied at the Manhattan School of Music before double-majoring in musical theater and opera at the University of Miami. She began releasing music, including her debut single, "Addicted to You," as a full-time student, leading to a contract with Headball Records.
Madame Mayhem's debut album, 2012's White Noise, was produced by Hudson Brother
Mark Hudson, who had previously produced albums for
Ozzy Osbourne and
Aerosmith in addition to
Ringo Starr and
Hanson, to name a few. The project's subsequent live shows included a residency at the Cutting Room in N.Y.C.
Madam Mayhem's next album was co-produced by another high-profile musician,
Billy Sheehan (
Mr. Big,
the Winery Dogs,
David Lee Roth), alongside guitarist
Simone Sello, who also mixed the record. The resulting
Now You Know saw release in 2015. The following year, Cohen and her band toured the U.S. with acts including
Doro and
Mushroomhead.
Her third studio LP was co-written with producer
Corey Lowery of
Saint Asonia,
Sevendust's
Clint Lowery, and
Evanescence's
Troy McLawhorn. Titled Ready for Me, it arrived via Headball and Metalville in 2017. She and her band joined
Sevendust on tour for several weeks in 2018. Released in January 2019, the
Madam Mayhem single "Broken" was co-written with
Breaking Benjamin's
Keith Wallen and featured
Sheehan on bass and
Korn's
Ray Luzier on drums. ~ Marcy Donelson
