Mahmood is an Italian pop, R&B and hip-hop performer of Egyptian and Sardinian heritage who attracted attention when he appeared on the Italian talent show 'The X Factor'. He won first place at the Sanremo Music Festival in 2019 and took the song 'Soldi' to the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest where he came in second. His 2019 debut album 'Gioventù Bruciata' topped the Italy Albums Chart and the single 'Soldi' went to number one on the Singles Chart.
