Jermaine Coleman, better known as Maino, is a platinum recording Hip Hop artist
from Brooklyn, NY. He is best known for his debut hit single titled "Hi Hater" and "All
The Above" feat. T-Pain which became certified platinum by the Recording Industry
Association of America (RIAA). The Brooklyn rapper collectively sold over 4 million
digital singles to date globally.
Maino grew up in the once poverty stricken area of Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
Unfortunately, both of his parents were addicted to illegal drugs. Living life as a youth with little support and guidance steered Maino into the wrong direction. By the early 90's, he found himself in the center of a "Drug Related Kidnapping," which landed him in prison for
a decade. This may have been the moment that saved his life and turned his downfall into a victory. He spent time in the box for 23 hours a day. He would rap to himself to keep himself from losing his mind. Surprisingly it was there where he was able to master the gift of rapping
without writing down the lyrics.
After Maino's release from prison, he started his own independent record label imprint Hustle Hard Entertainment. After a number of mixtape releases with established guest features, he signed with Universal Records. In 2008 he parted ways with the label. It was also during 2008 where he signed himself and his record label imprint Hustle Hard to Atlantic Records. His debut album 'If Tomorrow Comes...' was released the same year with
the club banger "Hi Hater" as the first single. The hit single was remixed with Hip Hop heavy hitters TI, Swizz Beatz, Plies, Jadakiss, and Fabolous. The second single "All The Above" featuring T-Pain was Maino's first song to make it to the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It started at #54, then rose to #39 the following week. It also peaked at #10 on the Hot Rap Tracks. The single is forever certified platinum that made it to the Top 40 list. The third single "Million Bucks," was produced and featured by Swizz Beatz. The album "If Tomorrow Comes...," sold 18,000 copies the first week and debuted at #25 on the Billboard 200. The
same year Maino created an original track titled "Getaway Driver" that was specifically for the 'Grand Theft Auto IV' video game.
In 2010, Maino released the 'Unstoppable' EP exclusively on ITunes which featured four
new tracks. He announced in July of 2015 that he was releasing his second album 'The Day After Tomorrow'. The album's first single "Let It Fly," featured Atlanta rapper Roscoe Dash. The Brooklyn rapper showed that he was on his grind by forming a rap group called The Black Flag under his imprint Hustle Hard. The group includes himself, Push!, Lucky Don, Twigg Martin and Hustle Hard Mouse. They released their first album titled "The Mafia" in October 2010. In 2014, Maino released the digital "King of Brooklyn" EP and "King of Brooklyn 2" mixtape.
In 2015, Maino recorded "Crazy" featuring Erika Jayne that was a number one dance hit in the US. He also released the "King of Brooklyn 3" mixtape and the "Maino Madness" mixtape, hosted by Power 105.1's DJ Self, which was mostly a compilation of freestyles. Recently, Maino released the "Yellow Tape: King Kong and Godzilla" mixtape in March of 2016. The mixtape is a joint project with fellow Brooklyn rapper Uncle Murda, made specifically for the streets and not mainstream. "Yellow Tape: King Kong and Godzilla" is now available on ITunes. Today Maino has release a few other single like "Heard U" & "Gang Gang Gang". The platinum artist has sold over 4 million records worldwide and plan on continuing to succeed as an entertainer.
