Perhaps a precursor to a "second wave" of the Bristol sound, England's Malakai are a duo made up of vocalist Gee and multi-instrumentalist Scott. The two got an early break after being "discovered" by one of their hometown's more beloved musical sons: Portishead's Geoff Barrow. With Barrow's assistance -- and label -- as backing, Malakai released the 12" single "Fading World," which also made an appearance as part of the soundtrack for a global warming film shown at the Glastonbury Festival in 2007. A buzz built around the band, and Malakai soon signed with major label Island. In September of 2007, Malakai released their first work for their new home, the EP Fading World.
