John Robert Mjaaland, Tor Magne Glidje and Ole Halvard Sveen started playing together back in 1991, on crappy instruments, with no skills â like some think it should be. They signed their first international record deal while still being teenagers and released their first fullength in 2000, under the name Lengsel. Ten years later, after several albums, a Norwegian Grammy-nomination and touring the world with bands like Opeth and Mastodon under the bandname Extol, the trio release another album, the first one using the bandname Mantric. The album was called "the Descent", was mixed by Tue Madsen at Antfarm Studios, and was released worldwide by American label Prosthetic Records. Kim Akerholdt from Silver handled the drums and Anders Salomon Lidal recorded synths and sounds.
In 2013, the trio are once more a trio â Ole Halvard recording the drums this time â and they start recording Mantric's second album at various locations. Two years later, the album is finally released â named "SIN", released by Loyal Blood Records.
What has been the trademark for Glidje, Sveen and Mjaaland all this time is a contrasting mix of music styles, always with a progressive touch. With Mantric more than ever. You can hear influences from 70's prog rock, grunge, alternative pop, country, hardcore and metal, blended into an intense, original expression. Alternative, progressive hard rock might be the closest you get to a genre.
