Matt Edwards (
Radio Slave) and Tom Gandey (
Cagedbaby) were already close friends when they met at Berlin, Germany's Hansa studio for the purpose of recording material in tribute to the storied recording facility. Over the course of two days, the duo came up with seven tracks made in the same place where
David Bowie's Low and
Heroes, as well as
Iggy Pop's
The Idiot and
Lust for Life, among other significant albums, were brought to life. Edwards and Gandey subsequently performed in Poland and France, then opted to work on new material for themselves in their own studios. The result was
Love Mistakes, a spacious, easy-flowing, sometimes dubbed-out synthesis of analog and digital techno made in a spirit similar to that of
Moritz von Oswald Trio. The album was released on
Carl Craig's Planet E label in 2014. ~ Andy Kellman
