Cacharel began performing at age 13 and won Radio France Internationale's Decouverte prize in 1983. He used the money to move to Paris, where he made a living as a session singer. He made several hit albums in the late '80s with his backing band Kebo, which is a popular street music in Brazzaville and Kinshasa. He was one of the founding members of Loketo, but did not remain in the group for very long.
