Rock critics are often said to be frustrated musicians, and their musical output rarely matches their writing. Metal Mike Saunders is one of the exceptions to this rule. His truly insipid songs (including the genius "My Girlfriend Is A Rock") are simple and stupid, sure, but they're also amazingly fun -- and funny. He's got the Dictator's sense of pop culture irony, and the musical charm of the Gizmos at their poppier moments, or maybe Southern California's most notorious knuckleheads, Vom. Saunders succeeds where so many other critics failed because it sounds like he's not taking himself too seriously. If you do the same, you're sure to have a good time; however, one listen to "My Girlfriend Is a Rock" and you'll be cursing Saunders for firmly planting such an inane song in your head.
