Born in Jamaica, but raised in Toronto, Earl "Mighty Pope" Heedram worked as an accountant until friends persuaded him to begin a career in music. He sang for 12 years and finally released a single in 1977. "Heaven on the Seventh Floor" became his only hit in Canada, spawning Mighty Pope's self-titled album debut the same year.
