Taking a cue from like-minded Canadian power pop confectioners like
Sloan,
New Pornographers, and
Super Friendz, as well as cult heroes like
the Soft Boys and
Big Star, Nova Scotian indie rock quartet
Monomyth craft hook-laden, psych-tinged slabs of jangle pop/heartland rock goodness. Formed in Halifax around the talents of guitarist/vocalists
Seamus Dalton and
Josh Salter, bassist Graeme Stewart, and drummer Matt Peters,
Monomyth released a handful of singles before inking a deal with Vancouver-based Mint Records, who would go on to issue the band's debut long-player,
Saturnalia Regalia!, in 2014. After the album's release the quartet kept a low profile before reappearing in late 2016 with their second album, the more musically diverse
Happy Pop Family. ~ James Christopher Monger
