A top clarinetist from Sweden,
Ove Lind became well known in his country for his
Benny Goodman-influenced playing.
Lind played with
Simon Brehm in 1949, Thore Swanerud's sextet and then the Swinging Swedes from 1952-54. In 1954,
Lind and bassist
Gunnar Almstedt co-led a quartet (which for a time had pianist
Bengt Hallberg) that grew to a sextet in 1956 and lasted until 1962. During his last 30 years,
Lind freelanced both in middle-of-the-road pop music and in jazz, recording frequently (including a 1970 session with
Teddy Wilson) and leading sessions for Swedish CBS in 1966, Gazell in 1968 and 1970, Euphonic in 1969 and 1974, Grammofonverket, Sveriges Radio, Phillips, EMI and Phontastic from 1975-80, often using vibraphonist Lars Erstand. ~ Scott Yanow
