Did you know that the band Hot Tuna originally wanted to be called Hot Sh*t? If not for the heavy hand of the major label, their records might not have been sold in family stores like Gemco, Best or JC Penny. Peter Sears played with Hot Tuna, but cut his teeth with Lemmy Kilmister in Sam Gopal's band (this was of course way before ol' Lemmy would join Hawkwind or form Motorhead). But even before that, Sears got his musical start in 1964 with the British Invasion band, Sons Of Fred, performing on television and touring the United Kingdom. Sears, who played both bass and keyboards also worked with Rod Stewart, Steamhammer, the Long John Baldry Blues Band, Jefferson Starship, Jerry Garcia, John Cipollina, Phil Lesh, Warren Haynes, Nick Gravenites, Roy Harper, Zydeco Flames, Ron Wood, Bob Weir, David Nelson, Mickey Hart, John Lee Hooker and has shared the stage with the likes of Jimi Hendrix, the Allman Brothers, Los Lobos, David Crosby, Sam Bush, Peter Rowen, Paul Butterfield, Michael Bloomfield, Levon Helm, Grateful Dead and Carlos Santana. You get the idea: the man is a much sought after session Jedi. Today he occasionally plays with Hot Tuna as well as the Flying Other Brothers, a twangy jam rock band that blends Grateful Dead with Flying Burrito Brothers styles. His solo work showcases his adroit musicianship, groove-friendly songwriting skills and a keen ear that's of great use when it comes to scoring films.
