b. Austria. A producer, songwriter and composer, Wolf is best-known for his contemporary symphonies, although he began his career writing music for artists including Heart, Jefferson Starship, Patti LaBelle, Santana and Kenny Loggins. His other clients have included Natalie Cole (the title track of her Snowfall On The Sahara) and hard rock band the Scorpions. In 1999, he was approached by the organisers of the Austrian outdoor music festival Klangwolke (Sound Cloud). They wanted him to write a symphony to celebrate the millennium, which was eventually performed on 4 September 1999 in front of 120, 000 spectators on the Danube. The piece included air raid sirens, projections of fighter planes overheard, then a real jet flypast, culminating in a small explosion on either side of the riverbank. The seven movements were introduced by Austrian actor Klaus Maria Brandauer, backed by a 100-strong orchestra. Guest artists included Cliff Richard (performing with Italian opera singer Vincenzo La Scola), Steve Lukather, James Ingram, Coolio and the horn section from Earth, Wind And Fire.
