Benedict Marfo, better known as Pope Nst is an Accra-based rapper-songwriter who has a unique way of making world class music in his native language. His stage name arouse due to Benedict being a Pope, and Nst an abbreviation of Nsuta, a small town in Ghana where he was born and raised. His music journey so far has been in the classroom and on the streets.
He started raping in basic school by writing and memorizing verses from Reggie Rockstone, Okyeame Kwame, Kwaw Kese, Sarkodie and other Ghanaian rappers.
Pope Nst had his first national television appearance in 2011 through music when he was in high school. His radio freestyle sessions during this period in his life gained him some exposure to start his professional music career.
In his first year in the University of Ghana, he offered a minor course in African music at the music department, school of performing arts. The course aims at introducing non-music majors to some of the basic but key concepts in African Music, their meanings, scopes, as well as the thought systems that underpin the creation, performance and consumption of music in sub-Saharan Africa.
In his third year in the University of Ghana Medical School he released his debut EP, Life Commentary (Time Mixtape, Pt. 2), on 10th January, 2020, after a couple of successful singles in the previous years.
With determination, hard work, persistency and consistency, he aspires to be a global influential musician and physician.
