Charles Webster emigrated from Britain to the United States after working with American techno mavericks including
Juan Atkins and
Derrick May. The producer, engineer and recording artist has worked with R&S and Hardkiss, but gained fame with his Love from San Francisco label.
Webster's acid-inspired productions as
Presence ("My Baby," "A Better Day," "Sense of Danger") became deep house standards, though more respected in Britain than America. A Love from San Francisco compilation was released in 1995, though
Presence's debut full-length didn't appear until 1999. ~ John Bush
