A Self-taught Musician
Laquisha Gary, a self-taught musician, born and raised in Knoxville, TN, has a profound love for music. At the age of 4, Gary started playing the piano and later learned to play the trombone.
Her musical journey started in high school, where Laquisha participated in marching, jazzband, and concerts. Gary’s freshman year included winning a piano competition and her jazz band winning the third position at a local festival.
Going to college to learn sound engineering didn’t sit well with Laquisha. So, she dropped out and started self-teaching, which she considers more effective. Her music expresses sorrow, heartbreak, love, self-empowerment, and other R&B/HipHop themes.
With different talents at hand, including singing and rapping, Laquisha has a unique way of expressing herself. Her musical career influencers include Alicia Keys, Erykah Badu, and Lauryn Hill.
Currently, Gary is practicing her mixing and mastering sound engineering skills on two albums and an EP. After mastering these albums, Laquisha will work on a new music project.
