Quique Neira

Quique Neira

Enrique Neira Leiva, former lead singer of Gondwana

* En anglais uniquement

Quique Neira grew up in a slum of Santiago, Chile during the military dictatorship of the 1970s. His father was forced into exile in England when Neira was very young, but though his father was away, he kept in touch with his young son by sending packages that often included tapes of reggae music. Neira grew to love the music, finding both salient political information in it during a time when the Chilean press was heavily censored and a newfound faith in Rastafari. He joined Chilean reggae band Gondwana as their singer in the 1990s and stayed with the group as it became first a national and then international phenomenon. Neira struck out on his own in 2003 with his first solo release, Eleven.
