Not to be confused with the Australian rocker and bassist of the same name, this
Robert Cooper is an American who was part of the band of
Pete Droge before leaving to chisel into harder rock. Based in Los Angeles,
Cooper was also seen by some concert audiences as a fill-in bassist for Mike Daane of
Last Rites, not because Daane was receiving his, but because he had garnered a better-paying stint with
Sara Hickman.
Cooper was supposedly roommates in the '90s with
Goo Goo Dolls drummer
Mike Malinin. The latter player and his roomie bassman also noodled around with some of the post-
Replacements projects of
Tommy Stinson.
Droge features
Cooper on a 1994 recording as well as on live tracks released by the Mountain Stage radio series. An intelligent, neutral way to experience this artist, however, is in the course of the soundtrack to the film Dumb and Dumber, where a
Droge ditty is embedded. ~ Eugene Chadbourne
