Sabine Liebner is a German pianist, noted for her performances of modern and contemporary music. She studied at the University of Music and Theater in Munich with Karl-Hermann Mrongovius, and participated in master classes with
Leonhard Hokanson, Peter Feuchtwanger,
Mieczyslaw Horszowski,
Maurizio Pollini, and
George Crumb. She is the recipient of several awards and grants, including the Music Promotion Award of the City of Munich, and she has been honored by the Goethe-Institut. In 1999 she founded the Munich-based series, "
Morton Feldman and Friends," where she performed solo piano works and chamber music by the composer.
Liebner has also become a preeminent interpreter of the music of
John Cage, and specialized in American avant-garde works, performing music by
Henry Cowell,
Earle Brown,
Christian Wolff,
George Crumb, and
Pauline Oliveros, among many others.
Liebner has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at many festivals in Germany, and she has played with the
Bavarian State Opera Orchestra and the
Munich Chamber Orchestra. She has frequently recorded for Oehms Classics, Neos Productions, and Wergo.
