The daughter of classical singer Neela Ghanekar, Sadhana Sargam has been singing since she was four years old. When she was ten she won a scholarship to study with Pandit Jasraj, and in 1978 Sadhana's mother used her connections to get her daughter a private audience with Kalyanji (of the music director duo Kalyanji Anandji). He was impressed with what he heard, and by the 1980s Sargam was singing in Hindi films. While she's sung for most of the major directors of the '80s and '90s, Sargam's career has slowed down lately as she spends more time teaching and indulging her first love: classical music.
