Finnish artist Sätilä, aka Teemu Sätilä, reveals a brand new song ‘Bend and Break’, and at the same time announces the forthcoming release of his debut EP ‘on the verge of something’, to be released on September 18. Brand new song ‘Bend and Break’ was written a few years ago in Australia with a songwriter friend Denny Feltwell. “It talks about the difficulty of making a decision even if you had the drive to move forward in your life. It has a nostalgic and melancholic feeling to it that I just love” Sätilä tells us. It is the fourth song to be lifted from the forthcoming EP, following ‘Like You Do’, ‘Slow Down’, and ‘Expired’. Sätilä combines a fresh fusion of infectious alternative/indie music with rich pop soundscapes. Having started writing songs at the age of seven after learning the piano, Sätilä later moved to Sydney, Australia, where he studied songwriting and. However, he soon realised his ambition to create something that was entirely his own, eventually heading back to Europe to pursue his own sound. He has received attention from the likes of YleX (Finnish equivalent of BBC Radio 1), as well as being playlisted on official Spotify playlists in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Canada. His new EP ‘on the verge of something’ is a collection of six tracks which showcases the breadth and depth of his music. Consisting of three brand new, unheard tracks, and three previously released songs, the EP is the perfect introduction to the rising alternative pop artist. Musically the EP moves from indie to left-leaning pop to electronic music drawing inspiration from contemporaries such as Tame Impala, MGMT, Foster the People, Lykke Li, Maggie Rogers, Bon Iver and James Blake, among others. “For 2019, my goal was to make an album” says Sätilä, “I was intrigued by the challenge of making a full body of work so I dropped out of university (London’s Goldsmiths) and started working on the album instead” Sätilä finished his album a year ago, but circumstances have led him to feel that now is the right time for an EP, rather than a full album: “The changes in releasing music made me change the plan to putting the music out in two EPs. Turns out, it works better this way musically. ‘On the verge of something’ is more electronic and synth-driven and has coherent lyrical themes of uncertainty, future and loss even though the EP finishes with a hopeful message of self love in ‘Like You Do’. The EP title describes its overall feeling of being in a state of anticipation just about to tip over to the future.”
