Satish is one of the few musicians to play the Firebird, a trumpet with an additonal trombone slide built in. With this instrument, Satish can replicate the music of Indian instruments he heard while growing up in an Indian household. Born in 1971, he didn't attempt to pursue a career in jazz trumpet until a move to New York City in 1996. It was there that he began to record, starting with a post-bop album that was a financial disappointment but led to two more records that were significant improvements on his early work.
