London-based experimental folk collective
Savaging Spires bubbled into existence around 2011 with the release of their self-titled solo album. The group tended toward the loose, murky sounds of pastoral folk with a decidedly psychedelic presentation, collaging together roughly recorded songs and ample amounts of ambient sounds to craft dream-like listening experiences. The band also kept an intentionally low profile, leaking very little information about its members or their respective biographies online. The mysterious group released a fair amount of new material for a band with such nebulous tendencies. Various cassette and 7" releases showed up soon after the debut, and 2013 saw the release of National Supper Session, an album recorded in a single take by the band gathered around a lone microphone. More fully produced but every bit as mercurial, third album We Should Be Dead Together materialized in 2014. ~ Fred Thomas
