Techno artist
Tommy Four Seven and mastering engineer Alain Paul (both born in the U.K. but based in Berlin, Germany) founded the experimental electronic duo
These Hidden Hands in 2012. Unlike
Tommy's more club-focused releases, the dark, sensuous recordings produced under the
THH banner include abrasive, fractured beats and discordant textures more common to noise and industrial music. The project made its debut with the 2013 single "Ivy," which sported remixes by
Lakker and
Vatican Shadow. The single preceded a self-titled debut album (released on the duo's own Hidden Hundred imprint), after which the duo began performing live. Two further remix EPs appeared by the end of the year, featuring contributions by acts like
SHXCXCHCXSH and
Kangding Ray. The duo then collaborated with experimental vocalist
Lucrecia Dalt, resulting in the single "These Moments Dismantled," which eventually saw release in early 2016. Later in the year, the duo issued "SZ31X71," backed by a
Roly Porter remix. The song appeared on
THH's second album,
Vicarious Memories. ~ Paul Simpson
