Formed in Pamplona in the late '80s,
Txarrena is a side project of Enrique Villarreal, the frontman/bassist of Spanish hard rock pioneers
Barricada. Released in 1992, their self-titled debut album was essentially a solo project for the maverick also known as "El Drogas," but after 19 years of focusing on his more renowned band, he returned in 2011 with a new supergroup lineup featuring guitarist Txus Maravi (La Lengua de Trapo), bassist Eugenio Aristu (Flako), and drummer Brigi Duque (
Koma). Produced by Haritz Wrighy, their second album, Azulejo Frío, was issued in the same year. ~ Jon O'Brien
