$UMS grew up in a small town in Central New Jersey, where he and his family lived with his grandmother. Music was always a very important part of his life and served as a therapeutic release that often distracted him from his own anxiety and depression, as well as other family-related issues. His parents introduced him to Hip-Hop/Rap at a very young age, often playing artists like Eminem and 50 Cent while riding in the car. But his interest in the genre flourished in the early 2010’s, when his older cousin introduced him to many new popular rappers, and specifically one of his favorite albums, Tha Carter IV (Deluxe). $UMS often credits this era of rap music as his biggest inspiration and even once stated, “Mac Miller showed me I could rap, Lil Wayne taught me how to rap, and Kid Cudi showed me how to display emotion while rapping”.

Since then his music taste has evolved while still keeping his core inspirations in his heart, and $UMS has carved out his own lane in the Hip/Hop landscape. He prides himself on his versatility, and executes different sub-genres of rap flawlessly. His songs range from challenging and introspective experimental Hip/Hop to melodic and emotional autotune ballads and even the occasional cut-throat verse with superior lyricism.

In September 2018, he released his debut single WORKING ON DYING
