Una Sand is a 20 year-old singer/songwriter based in Oslo.
Already as young girl music had a special place in Una's heart. Growing up, her father was producing music as a hobby, and she had access to a basement studio where she spent a lot of time with her friends. She wrote her first songs about the age of 10. Una started taking piano lessons when she was 8 years-old, but she never learnt to read music scores. For her, it's all about aural skills.
At 18, Una was invited to participate at Songfarm by a previous colleague of her father's. Here she was placed in a team with multiple professionals, amongst them Kirsten Schneider, a songwriter for Sony ATV Netherlands. They hit it off right away, and the song they made was well received, so only a few weeks later Una was invited to Amsterdam to work.
During an intense week, Kirsten and Una wrote several songs and their cooperation was established. Shortly after, Sony ATV formalised the cooperation and Una signed a publishing contract. She was then in her last year of high school, and cooperative parents and teachers arranged for Una to be able to take trips to Amsterdam to work.
Focused on developing as a songwriter, building her network and finding her own personal style, Una shuttled back and forth between Norway and the Netherlands. She had sessions with a multitude of producers and artists, while finishing art school at Oslo by Steinerskole.
Despite her young age and short career, Una has written an impressive amount of songs (over 60!). She has found her own style through working with different producers, and the last 6 months she has focused on writing songs for herself. The style is somewhere between melodious pop and a more indie-inspired expression.
Una writes texts that mean something to her. It's important to her to communicate emotions, and she often describes occurrences in a larger setting. With an extensive use of metaphors she wants the listener to form their own images and to recognise themselves in the songs.
Una's lived in Italy for two periods during her childhood and adolescence, and she speaks Italian. She loves travelling and experiences other cultures, from which she draws a lot of inspiration.
