An Australian duo taking inspiration from the most sinister and doomily romantic parts of post-punk, synth pop, and coldwave, White Hex features Tara Green and Jimi Kritzler, also of fiery post-punk revivalists Slug Guts. The group formed in 2011, when Green and Kritzler -- who had known each other since their teenage days -- found themselves at Brisbane at the same time and began making music. After a stint in Egypt, the pair found themselves in Berlin, where they recorded their brooding debut mini-album Heat; it was released in 2012 by the European label AVANT, and later by the Australian imprint Nihilistic Orbs. Kritzler and Green returned to their homeland, this time settling in Melbourne, and began working on new music. Inspired by Italo disco, high fashion, and '80s techno, among other things, White Hex collaborated with producer Alex Akers on Gold Nights, a sleek set of songs released by Felte Records in mid-2014. ~ Heather Phares
