Michigan native Miles Coleman records densely layered yet lush and relaxing downtempo electronic music under the name
Wing Vilma.
Originally from Grand Rapids, Coleman was classically trained as a pianist, and began making electronic music under the name Michigami in 2014. Blending jazzy, mellow chords with intricate drum programming and organic instrumentation, their work soon caught the attention of Detroit-based label Young Heavy Souls, who issued their Tape C cassette in 2015. Coleman continued working on music, gathering sounds from their travels across America and abroad to China. After adopting the pseudonym
Wing Vilma in 2017, their debut album,
Safe by Night, appeared in 2018. Spirit Practice, reflecting their love of the natural world and their understanding of their trans/non-binary identity, was released in 2021. ~ Paul Simpson
