YKB, whose real name is Yusuf Oluwo, is an Afropop singer and songwriter. He was born on March 6, 1995. He spent most of his childhood in Ketu, Lagos, where he developed an inclination towards music.
YKB is gifted at crafting melodies and is a versatile artist. His music is a fusion of Afrobeats and RnB, Trap music, and Hip-hop. He has continued to push his music independently, using platforms like SoundCloud to further spread his music to an audience. He has steadily built for himself a solid fanbase.
The young singer studied Marine Science in the University of Lagos. He released a song, Original, in 2013 but was yet to take his music career seriously then. After a couple years, he resurfaced and went ahead to release Remote (a cover of Drake’s Controlla). He dropped a freestyle titled Oga na Masta on SoundCloud after many of his fans urged him to when he posted a skit on Instagram. Again, he took another short break from music to focus on other hustles as there was hardly enough resources to focus solely on music.
However, the energetic singer, in 2019, decided to follow his passion fully and dropped a song Swaggu (using a beat he got from YouTube). It was this song that caught the attention of many music listeners and they started to follow his music career religiously. His official single, Do and Undo, was released in December 2019. The song quickly gained traction, earning him a place in the list of talented new school acts.
In 2020, YKB, alongside acts like Jinmi Abduls, Remy Baggins, Buju, Sute Iwar, was featured on the Ejoya project, showing his musical dexterity on songs like Yawa, Selense, and Kryptonite. He was named as one of the artists on the Empawa 2020 earlier this year. Using platforms like Audiomack and SoundCloud, YKB has extended his reach as an independent musician. He later released a capsule, Hear Me Out, that contained two songs Know Me and Tsunami to close the year officially.
YKB, is inspired by musicians such as Wande Coal, Davido, Chris Brown, Drake, Tory Lanez, and many others. The Afropop singer is poised to take his career to the next level as an independent act as he continues to garner attention from music lovers with his exceptional sound.
